Award-winning Ojai Studio Artist Valerie Freeman’s exhibition of luster ceramic sculptures and new equine mixed media paintings will be on display at Bella Rosa Galleries, 1103 State St. Santa Barbara for First Thursday’s Artwalk, with a reception August 6 from 5-7pm. The exhibit runs through September 3, 2015.

Her new equine paintings are a surge of energy working with pre-painted canvases and mixed media washes.  Freeman looks for glimpses of the equine to appear and with minimal brushstrokes, enhances the gestures of the horse, creating imagery that is magical and dreamlike.

On exhibit are her newly developed luster ceramic sculptures of animals, including her equine “Gotta Itch” series, now with experimental luster glazes!  Prize winners,  “Salt n’ Pepper” luster ceramic sculptures inspired by two kid goats butting heads, will also be on display.  They won first place at the Ventura County Potter's Guild contest at the Ojai Music Festival in Libbey Park.  She whimsically claims, “Salt n’ Pepper don’t shake, they only butt.”
