If you’ve been eagerly waiting to see the new mural project on lower State Street, you won’t have to wait much longer. Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider will cut the ribbon with project benefactor Michael McDonald on Saturday, September 5. The 4 o’clock event will be a true community street celebration, complete with Mariachi music and canapés.

Over the course of the summer, local artists and their assistants created a collection of sixteen 8’x6’ murals. Participants include artists David Diamant, Anke Gladnick, Aviel Hyman, Barbara Eberhart, Danny Meza, Earl Arnold, Jess Nieuhues, Jonathon Hernandez, Kathee Christie, Lauren Manzo, Maryvonne Laparliere, Matt Rodriguez, Metrov, Rafael Perea De La Cabada, Sara Wilcox, Shannon McCain Jaffe, Yaneli Delgado and assistants Victoria Cutbirth and Madison Dykstra.

The murals, located at the La Entrada section of lower State Street, are part of the Postcards of Santa Barbara Project, a collaboration with the local chapter of creative entrepreneurship academy Youth Interactive. The art covers up the unsightly construction that's been ongoing across the street from the Hotel Indigo, at the future home of the Community Arts Workshop of Santa Barbara.

CAW, set to open in spring 2016, will serve as a creative workspace for artists. Located at 631 Garden Street, it is meant to be an accessible, affordable center for artists of all disciplines. Until it opens, you can enjoy the Postcards of Santa Barbara murals as soon as they're opened on September 5.
